Potassium Iodide (65-67 mg)

Overview:
Potassium iodide is used to block and reduce the accumulation of radioactive iodine isotopes in the thyroid gland. This helps reduce the risk of hypothyroidism and thyroid cancer in scenarios involving radioactive contamination, such as nuclear plant accidents or terrorist acts.

Dosage & Administration:

  • Adults and Children Over 18 Years: Take 2 tablets of 65 mg once daily.
  • Pregnant and Lactating Women: 2 tablets of 65 mg. Should be taken only once and immediately move to a safe, uncontaminated area.
  • Children Aged 3 to 18 Years: 1 tablet of 65 mg. Adolescents weighing 70 kg or more should take the adult dose.
  • Children Aged 1 Month to 3 Years: 1/2 tablet of 65 mg.
  • Infants (Up to 1 Month): 1/4 tablet of 65 mg.

Important Notes:

  • The recommended doses should be administered as soon as possible after exposure (within 3 hours of the incident).
  • Continue taking one dose every 24 hours as long as exposure risk persists.
  • For neonates, pregnant women, and nursing mothers, a single dose is advisable.
  • Tablets should be taken after meals and can be swallowed whole with water or crushed and mixed with beverages or milk.
